Chris Ober Baseball Death McDonough GA Obituary-FOX Sports production assistant Chris ‘Ipad Guy’ Ober died after cancer battle

Chris Ober, a beloved member of the FOX Sports family known to many baseball fans as the “iPad Guy,” has reportedly died following a long and difficult medical journey. His passing has brought sadness to colleagues, friends, family members and members of the sports community who admired his resilience and dedication.

FOX Sports Production Assistant

Chris built a career behind the scenes in sports broadcasting, working as a production assistant for FOX Sports at some of baseball’s biggest events. His work included appearances at the MLB All-Star Game and World Series, where his presence became familiar to viewers and colleagues.

Brain Tumor Diagnosis

Chris’s medical journey began shortly after the death of his father in late 2011. What initially appeared to be relatively minor headaches and neck cramps became much more serious during a job-interview trip in January 2012. Doctors discovered a brain tumor, and Chris underwent emergency surgery on January 18, 2012.

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Chris demonstrated remarkable determination. He was released from the hospital within a week and returned to work at the Daytona 500 the following month.

Cancer Treatment and Recovery

Over the following years, Chris underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation while continuing his career in sports broadcasting. Even while dealing with treatment, he remained committed to his work and continued participating in major sporting events.

After an MRI showed that the tumor had returned, Chris pursued a clinical trial. By the end of 2014, encouraging scans showed that the tumor was no longer visible.

Another Tumor in 2022

Chris’s medical challenges returned years later. In September 2022, another MRI detected a new tumor, leading to surgery in November. Complications following the procedure included seizures, and Chris was placed into a medically induced coma.

He was subsequently transferred to another hospital to be taken off a ventilator. Further treatment included proton radiation.

Radiation Injury and Rehabilitation

Doctors initially believed that Chris’s continuing neurological problems, including partial paralysis on his left side, could be related to another tumor recurrence. It was ultimately determined that radiation damage was responsible for significant neurological setbacks.

The effects left Chris requiring a wheelchair and intensive rehabilitation as he worked toward regaining mobility and independence.

A Beloved Member of the Sports Community

Throughout his medical struggles, Chris remained known for his determination and his love of sports broadcasting. His FOX Sports colleagues and friends described him as a tireless team member who represented the spirit of the organization.

His goal was to return to the work he loved, including the possibility of being back with the FOX Sports team for the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, his hometown.

Chris Ober Remembered

Chris’s story is one of perseverance through extraordinary circumstances. From undergoing emergency brain surgery and returning to work within weeks to enduring years of treatment and rehabilitation, he continued fighting to maintain the career and life he valued.

His death marks a significant loss for his family, friends and the FOX Sports community. Those who knew Chris are remembering not only his work in baseball broadcasting but also his determination, personality and ability to continue moving forward despite tremendous challenges.
