Three people were found dead inside a home on Wild Azalea Lane in Skillman, Montgomery Township, New Jersey, after police conducted a welfare check, according to local authorities. The victims were reportedly members of the Grodnick family, including David Grodnick, Lora “Lori” Grodnick and their daughter, Sloane Caroline Grodnick.
Montgomery Township police entered the residence at approximately 5:52 p.m. on October 2 while conducting a welfare check and discovered three deceased adults. According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, two adult women appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds, while an adult man was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a firearm in his possession.
Authorities had initially responded to concerns about the residents after a neighbor reported that mail had accumulated and the occupants were not responding to calls or text messages. Police had previously visited the property on October 1 but were unable to make contact.
Local reporting identified the family as David and Lora Grodnick and their daughter Sloane. David was described as a senior vice president and underwriting counsel for Land Services USA, while Sloane had graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design and was enrolled in a master’s program at the Rhode Island School of Design.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation. Detectives from the Montgomery Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and crime-scene investigators responded to the residence. Medical examiners were scheduled to conduct postmortem examinations to positively identify the victims and determine the causes and manners of death.
The deaths have left the Montgomery Township community shocked as investigators continue working to establish what happened inside the residence.
Authorities have said there is no continuing threat to the public. Additional information about the investigation and funeral arrangements is expected to emerge as officials notify relatives and complete the medical examinations.
